| Why did you pick the name "GuitarGearHeads"? |
First we must understand what a ?Guitar Gear Head? is. A Guitar Gear Head is a guitar player who is on the never ending quest to find the perfect guitar tone. No matter how much gear they have they are always looking for one more piece of gear that will take their sound to the stratosphere. We are ?Guitar Gear Heads? and we are proud of that fact. Moreover, our whole site is aimed at giving you an edge when it comes to finding *your* sound! Are you a Guitar Gear Head??
The name Guitar Gear Heads was a name Gary?s wife came up with for an online music store he was considering starting up. We decided the name fit this site well and that the music store could be part of this site in the future! |
| Why did you start this project? |
After writing freelance reviews for a few major brand name musical gear companies we found that it was very difficult to get these reviews posted on sites without the manufacturer having to pay big money for the priviledge.
Frankly, we were appalled by the prices these sites were charging the manufacturers and decided we wanted to give more gear companies a chance to showcase what they were offering to us, the musicians!
In our search for companies to feature products for we were surprised to see that are many manufacturers that are relatively unknown because they don?t have the advertising budgets of the big companies.
We are offering them a chance to get their gear seen without going broke. This is a mutually beneficial thing both for them and for you the Guitar Gear Head.
Guitar Gear Heads was born the instant when Dan e-mailed Gary and said ?Do you want to start a guitar review site?? Gary replied ?Sure!!? |
| Who are you guys? |
There are two principal partners involved in this website: Daniel Halberg and Gary Allen.
****Daniel Halberg****
Believe it or not, I am a "guitar newby" compared to Gary. I started playing about 3 years ago at the tender age of 31! Gary seems to think I've caught on pretty fast...if only I had started a bit earlier in life...maybe I could have been a rock star! I try to practice about an hour or so a day, and more when I can spare the time.
My wife actually bought me my first guitar - and I think she regrets it a little bit since I haven't put it down since. Now I own 6 guitars - 3 electric, 2 acoustic, and 1 travel guitar....and I'm eyeballing a Taylor 514CE.
Outside of guitars I have a PhD in statistics and economics and work for a major Pharma company. My job requires heavy travel so don't be upset if it takes me a day or so to get back to you! In my spare time, I like to spend time with my wife and baby daughter.
I currently serve as the Editor and Webmaster for GGH.

I started out as a drummer in my Dad's band at 13 years old. I played for him until I was 19, when I picked up one of his old acoustic guitars and a very old guitar book. I taught myself to play from that book and have never looked back. I still like to play the drums and some bass, but guitar is my instrument of choice now.
I have been in a few bands as a guitar player and a drummer. The last band I was in was called "Bullzeye" and we played country rock. (The music was rock, but we wore cowboy hats!! lol) We wrote about half of of the songs we played ourselves and had great time coming up with fresh new ideas. We unfortunately never were able to get into a studio to record before we disbanded.
Now I just play my guitar for fun and my dream is to one day start a home studio to record some of my ideas. I have 3 acoustics, 5 electrics and a bass guitar. I also have two racks full of gear for recording and guitar playing as well as other sound reinforcement equipment. I am an absolute gear head and always looking for new gear.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children, and working on a summer home we have bought and are currently remodelling. Also I am currently working on a certificate in business management.
I am the President / Director of Development for Guitar Gear Heads. I have been published in Musicians Friend's Tech Tips as well as other smaller publications. My job at GGH is to build relationships with manufactures and other guitar related sources for review and advertising purposes. |
| How do you see GuitarGearHeads developing? |
We have left plenty of room to grow on this site. This site will be a constant work in progress. Our ultimate mission is to be THE site that people think of when they are looking for guitar related gear. We have a long way to go to fulfill that dream...but we think we've got a pretty good start!
We have plans of adding more features including a small store featuring only the best gear at the best prices - sometimes we'll even offer prices lower than what anyone else can offer because of our relationships with the manufacturers. We will constantly be looking for the newest gear to review for you from many manufacturers.
We would like to see this site be the premier site that the manufacturers want to be involved with.
We will not do reviews on equipment that we don?t like or would not own ourselves because there is to much good equipment out there. We don?t feel we have time to write reviews on substandard equipment and we don?t feel that we should waste your time reading about it. However, just because a particular piece of gear is not reviewed here it does not mean that it is a substandard piece of gear. It may simply be that we have not yet reviewed it.
If you have a question about a particular piece of gear, let us know and we will try to contact the manufacturer and see if they will send us one to review.
Better yet...send them an e-mail and tell them you want their gear reviewed on GuitarGearHeads.com before you will buy it! |
| How is GuitarGearHeads different from other guitar sites? |
Three things really stand out to us on this issue of what makes us different from everyone else.
1) We all check our guitar playing egos at the door when we enter this site. Beginning players can feel comfortable asking any questions they have and know that they will get an answer without being flamed. We were all at the beginning point and had questions at one time. Too many players don?t remember what it was like when they started. We do, so feel free to ask. Just remember that there are no stupid questions. If you need to know we will do our best to answer.
2) Most guitar sites are either set up for the manufacturers to advertise their gear, or for the players to talk about gear. We encourage both players and manufacturers to participate in this site together. We will be encouraging the companies we work with to schedule times that they will be in our chat room to answer questions and comments from the members of the site. What better way to shape the new products that are being developed than to get the input of the people who are ultimately going to buy these products?
3.) We want your input on how to make this site better. Feel free to make suggestions or comments and tell us what you think. Your input is valuable to us. |
