I recently saw Renaissance in a reunion concert in NYC and was surprised that Michael Dunford was playing a Martin Super Jumbo bodied 12 string. I saw that Martin has, after over a century, recently started encroaching on this territory previously owned by Gibson and Guild and was wondering if anyone at GGH has ever played and compared the Martins to the venerated Gibson SJ200 or the Guild F50. Any opinions?

I have not tried this amplifier, but it does certainly seem that there is a growing trend toward designing smaller amplifiers with higher wattage ratings. The ZT amplifiers for guitars are a good example of this trend.

Very interesting article John. Thanks for sharing this. One the other hand, a lot of bands are recording thier own albums now and skipping the record companies altogether. That puts a lot of money back in thier pocket, but they really need to have good business sense and marketing skills if they want to ever reach the listening public, and that is where much ofm the saved money will end up going.

Yeah, I saw that, too. I was at a seminar with Robben Ford and someone asked what advice he would give someone considering a career in music. His answer? "Don't".

I've usually used 15" speakers for bass guitar in the 30 years that I have been playing. I think it rather novel that the trend for bass has been more and more towards 10" speakers while guitars still use the ubiquitous 2X12 combos and 4X12 cabs.

Carvin recently released a 200w micro bass amp with a 10" speaker. Anyone tried it yet, and does anyone have any preference comments?

I saw this article recently, which might be somewhat daunting for most musicians thinking of making a career from music. All the more reason to know the business end as much as possible.

I have checked out some Danelectro effects in the past, although i have never compared the two mentioned here. What I have found with the Danelectro line though is that they do well in the effects department, but I would give them low marks in the area of durability. They seem to be good for controled environments like a studio, but I would be hesitant to use them for gigging if I had a busy hectic schedule.

In this video i break down the specific right/left hand positions and patterns i use to play this great Police song. The video does not contain a 'performance' so some knowledge of the tune is very helpful. Thanks for watching & all the best with your music!
