Thanks Sam.

As far as myself, I am a long way off from gigging. I can't even get anyone to jam with me other than my dad who is way behind me, and a friend of mine who is a bit older and does not really take it too seriously.

So, I guess I am looking for something to experiment with as I grow as a guitar player. Something that I can use to produce good sound files for uploading, etc.

Adam

Hi Adam

The best advice I can give, is to go along to your local dealer and try one out - it's all down to taste. In saying that, here's my view...

I myself had a pod 2 (and have since upgrarded to a podXT) and can honestly say that they are amazing. They have great amps and cabinets (in any combination) and great effects + options that will (and I mean, really will) keep you occupied for weeks! When I unboxed mine, no one saw me for months!!!

You can also get a pedal board for it (at extra cost), which will be useful if you want to use it for rehearsing/gigging.

You may want to to think about the podXT - it is more expensive, but Line6 have recently released an upgrade for it that enables you to use it as a Guitar Port (bare in mind that the 1st podXT's need a software upgrade to facilitate this feature).

Personally, I will always stick to a good old fashioned valve amp for live playing and keep the pod for recording, but will always take a pod along incase the amp blows. In my humble opinion, a real life valve amp just cant be beat for pure tone and feel, but you need to crank 'em up! The good thing about a pod is it sounds good at any volume (just doesn't have that edge).

It's worth shopping around, too. I haven't heard it yet, but Vox have got an amp simulator on the market (with an actual valve in it!!!), which is getting rave reviews - well worth a look.

Anyway, hope this helps!!!

Cheers
Sam

Another good source of info is a series of articles on recording the guitar by Jay Graydon on Guitar.com. It's WAY over my head but there's a ton on information there.

Hey Guys,

My first post here, so before asking any questions, I wanted to thank you for going the extra mile an putting up the site. Awesome.

Well, I've only been playing for a few months, but already I can tell you that I ENJOY using different effects. I find that they stimulate my creative process, which makes learning the guitar that much more enjoyable.

That being said, I'm currently looking at the Line 6 POD 2.0. I've read about it's features, I've heard sound samples online, but now, I'm curious to hear some feedback about it from the resident Guru's.

Anyone???

Hi dufus,

First off you are starting out right with the SM57. This is a very affordable great quality mic and has been used over the years to record hundreds of big name albums. One of our members here is an LA sound engineer by the name of Barry Rudolph. He wrote an article about micing amps that was very informative to me. Here is a link to the article on his website. http://www.barryrudolph.com/utilities/guitars.html
I hope this helps. Be sure to look around the rest of Barry's website.
